Our History

InfoPathways Inc. was formed by Thomas Bethune and Douglas Heck in March 2004 to provide information management solutions and network support to a wide variety of business clients. Thom began his career in the highway/heavy construction industry where he rose to the level of CIO and implemented numerous improvements in existing processes through the introduction of new technologies. Douglas worked as an independent computer consultant since 1996, providing management solutions for NSA subcontractors, highway/heavy construction companies and many small businesses throughout Maryland and Virginia.

Douglas has worked in technology since 1978, beginning with four years in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland University College in Computer and Information Science. Douglas is a database engineer and solution developer, designing and implementing solutions for the web and for the desktop.

Thom Bethune worked for over fifteen years in the contracting industry where he ultimately filled the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for a construction firm with over 200 employees and annual revenues of over $100 million. His five years as CTO gave him a wealth of experience with a wide variety telecommunications, data management, and networking systems. Thom attended the University of North Texas, is a Microsoft System Engineer and maintains certifications for Symantec Small Business Specialist, Security Certified Network Professional, and Cisco Call Manager.

Douglas and Thomas met in 1996 when Thomas was working as the CTO of a construction company for whom Douglas had been designing custom database applications. Thomas had also been doing consulting work on the side with other construction companies who needed IT help. Both Thomas and Douglas soon realized that there was a great need for technology assistance in the construction industry and that no other IT company was using a ‘holistic’ approach to technology. Companies were erroneously considering process, technology, data and documentation as separate entities and not as parts of a single cohesive system.

In March of 2004, Thomas and Douglas formed InfoPathways LLC with an approach to IT that was and still is unique to the industry. InfoPathways’ builds custom solutions to technology problems that are as individual as the businesses they are designed for. Each new client receives a detailed interview about their company, products, processes, and people. In essence, InfoPathways becomes partners with the company with a common goal to efficiently and effectively streamline data management, communications and security.

InfoPathways soon obtained clients from industries outside of the construction industry including schools, municipalities, nonprofit agencies, and businesses representing almost every sector. In March of 2007, InfoPathways moved to its current location in Westminster, occupying a 3000 square foot building at the corner of Liberty and West Green Streets. Additional staff members were soon added, growing the InfoPathways Team to include additional network engineers, database engineers, web designers, a full time sales and marketing professional and a professional photographer.

Today, InfoPathways, Inc. is known throughout Carroll County and beyond for their dedication to providing full-service technology support, education and innovation to small businesses, municipalities and nonprofits.
