Five women from Emmitsburg, wanting to share their interest in gardening, invited other women to form a garden club. The first meeting was held at Mrs. Alice Frailey's home, "Stonehurst", the third Thursday of May, 1954.
The club was named "Silver Fancy Garden Club." Silver Fancy was the original name of the land east of what is presently known as Emmitsburg in the year 1757. (James A. Helman's History of Emmitsburg.)
The Silver Fancy Garden Club was accepted into the Federation of Garden Clubs of Maryland at a July 18, 1957, meeting. There were fifteen charter members of the club.
The Silvery Fancy Garden Club meets on the Third Thursday of each month. The meetings are at various locations and include a speaker or presentation, and light refreshments. Several meetings a year are open to the public.
