Project Information Management is the collection, organization and distribution of the information that is related to a project. It is something we all do whether we are engineering companies, heavy highway contractors, trucking companies, or nearly any construction-related business you can imagine. And as you will see, Project Information Management with PIMS employs a combination of electronic media and paper. As you come up to speed with PIMS, the ratio of electronic media to paper will lean further and further toward the electronic media, but note that PIMS will not eliminate the paper. As humans, we function better in some of our tasks using paper for quick reviews and note taking, as an aid in meetings; it is easier for use to grasp some concepts in paper form than it is on the computer. PIMS helps you manage your projects more effectively.
